Fact:
Exponents can be multiplied when their bases are the same--you take the base and add the exponents.
What this means to me:
This is an important rule to remember because it will help you simplify a lot of equations. Take the equation 23 x 24. Since both exponents mean multiplying 2 by itself (2), if you combine the exponents you're just saying to multiply 2 by itself more times, which is the same thing as writing it out in two exponents. Combining the exponents gives us 27.Simplify each one with your calculator--you'll see that they are equal.
