Question: In the summer of 1787, James Madison earned a reputation as "father of the Constitution" due to he was interested in limiting the government's ability to interfere in citizens' lives.



Choices:
A. due to he was interested in limiting
B. due to his interest in limiting
C. due to being interesting in limiting
D. due to the interest to limit
E. due to the fact that he was interested in limiting



The original is incorrect because the preposition due to requires the objective pronoun him rather than the nominative pronoun he. (C) uses a construction that corrects the original problem, but incorrectly uses the adjective interesting which changes the meaning. (D) creates ambiguity over whose interest. (E) corrects the problem but creates unnecessary wordiness.
