Question: A comparison of monthly sales showed that salespeople perform best when they see their department managers working as hard as them.



Choices:
A. as them
B. as they
C. as they were
D. as them working
E. as their work



The original is wrong because it uses the direct object pronoun rather than the correct pronoun construction, which is as hard as they [work]. (C) corrects the pronoun error but sets the clause in past tense which is incorrect since they see sets the sentence in present tense. (D) contains the original error. (E) is wrong because it sets up an error in parallelism by comparing the verb "managers working" with the noun "their work."
