Skip to Question: 1 2 3 4 5  | Next Question

If the game went into extra innings, the relief pitcher would have won it for the visiting team.

Question: Which of the underlined segments of the sentence above contains an error?

Choices:
A. went
B. into
C. relief pitcher
D. it
E. There is no error in this sentence

The correct answer is (A).

The past subjunctive "had gone" should replace "went" in the first clause to coordinate with the past conditional in the second clause ("would have won").
