Question: A store displays all the AA batteries it has in a display case on a wall. The batteries can be displayed in three columns of equal height. The batteries can also be displayed in four, five, or six columns of equal height. What is the smallest number of batteries that the store can have?

Choices:
A. 15
B. 30
C. 60
D. 180
E. 360



The correct answer is C.

Since the batteries can be evenly divided by 3, 4, 5, and 6, the answer will be the least common multiple of these numbers. The quickest approach is to consider the choices from smallest to largest. 15 is not a multiple of 4 or 6, so (A) is no good. 30 isn't a multiple of 4, so (B) is incorrect. 60, however, is evenly divisible by all four numbers. This is the correct answer.
