ACT: Math Question #4 |
|
Question:
A garden needs to be covered with grass sod. The garden has the dimensions shown above. How many square feet of sod are required to cover the garden?
Choices:
The correct answer is D. The problem is asking you to determine the area of the figure. There are a few ways to do this. You could break the figure into 3 rectangles and add their areas. However, a quicker method is to consider the figure a solid rectangle by drawing a line from one of the bottom "legs" to the other.

| 1,200 square feet - 144 square feet = 1,056 square feet. |
